I would like to welcome our new teachers: Miss Maddie McDougall to our Year 7 team, Mrs Leigh-Anne Mick and Mr Jordan King to our Year 8 team and Mrs Kim Schade to our Year 10 team. Mr Nathan Chatterton is our new AST in charge of Year 8. Miss Emily Kreymborg is teaching Year 7, 8 and 9 Science. Mrs Amanda Williams is teaching a Year 7 core class this term and Mr Oliver Robinson is teaching in our PE department. We also welcome Miss Emma Pearce who is a university student who will be working in Mr Eamens and Mr Kings class throughout this year.
I have worked in many schools across the north of the state over many years and I can honestly say that the staff at Brooks High are outstanding. Together we are committed to providing the very best programs for our students. If you have any concerns or questions please ring class teachers in the first instant. School leaders, including myself, are also happy to answer any queries too, as the next step. When we work together we can achieve the best outcomes for our students.
I would like to thank our community for their support of our new phone policy. The Tasmanian Government has introduced tight restrictions on the use of phones at school. Whilst we already had a phone policy in place having phones away from the beginning until the end of the school day has already seen many benefits. Phones are no longer a distraction to learning. Students are talking to each other and socialising in positive ways. Students are also engaging in sports and other activities. Phones must stay in bags and lockers from the first to the last bell each day. We have also purchased safes for each room where phones can be safely stored.
I would also like to sincerely thank all our families for their commitment to ensuring their children are in full school uniforms. With very few exceptions this has been the case across the school. Just a couple of clarifications; black tights may be worn under dresses however they cannot be worn as trousers and shorts need to be black and a reasonable length, without obvious logos. Only school caps are a part of our school uniform. Under the new Education Act (July 2017) the wearing of school uniforms is compulsory in all State Schools.
We want the best outcomes for all our students. When parents and guardians work together we will be successful in achieving this. I look forward to meeting with families over the next school year.
Kind Regards
Louise Fisher
Principal
Some of our Student Leaders were part of a media call at Brooks High School to promote the upcoming International Women's Day Breakfast in early March.
Our students were joined by representatives of Rotary Tamar Sunrise and Bell Bay Aluminium and were interviewed by local media about the event. The students spoke confidently about what they hope to get out of the function and their own aspirations for the future.
7E students have started their 2020 options rotation in Digital Art. They have moved through a collection of tasks that have introduced them to working in Photoshop, creating Front covers for their folders and a myriad of cool text effects. It’s been wonderful to see the students develop their confidence in using Photoshop more independently as they work through instructions, workshops and tutorials and take pride in their work. This week will see them exploring brushes, focusing on tone and texture to create form.
All Year 7 students are reminded that the free Fissure Sealant and Fluoride Varnish Program commences Monday 3rd March at Brooks High School.

Change to school bus services
School communities were consulted in May 2019, which resulted in revisions being made to a number of Metro’s school routes. The new school bus network took effect from Wednesday 5 February 2020, being the first day of the school year.

Metro is available to assist parents and students to understand the new school bus network.
