Last week we had our second whole school assembly for the year. Our assemblies are a very important aspect of our school life for many reasons. I believe our assemblies cultivate a pride in our school and a sense of unity. Due to COVID restrictions we have not had an opportunity for a whole school assembly since February. Assemblies encourage and support our vision of building a strong and positive school culture that essentially underpins our learning programs. Key messages and expectations are shared with all and student work and achievements are celebrated. During this assembly we celebrated academic achievements, heard stories, sporting achievements, watched and listened to performances and viewed outstanding pieces of student work and this helps to motivate our students to set high personal goals.
This week we held the Brooks has Talent finale. Student leaders held auditions and we expected some very memorable and exciting acts! Whilst it is sad that parents and community members cannot be invited as yet due to space and COVID restrictions we look forward to a time when we can all come together to celebrate as a whole community once more.
We are also able to offer sporting opportunities once more for our students. The North East Cup was held today at Scottsdale High School and our footballers, soccer players and netballers will have enjoyed this competition. We also had a large number of students put their hands up for an after school basketball competition and many of our girls will be participating in an AFL girls gala day in the last week of term. It is wonderful to see our young people making the most of these opportunities.
There has been some discussion in school around a graphic video that has been circulated on a range of media platforms including facebook, tiktok and instagram. This is a timely reminder to be vigilant and to have open discussions with your children about possible dangers on the internet. If anyone ever encounters inappropriate content on an online platform, it is strongly advised that they report it on the relevant social media platform and/or to eSafety via www.esafety.gov.au/report/illegal-harmful-content.

Wow, how good do these dishes look! Year 9/10 Food Technology students created these amazing results as part of their recent unit on food presentation and plating. Students studied various techniques and then chose which ones they would use to present a photo-worthy single serving.

9/10 Tourism class held an excursion last week travelling into town and enjoying a Tamar River Cruise followed by a walk around Launceston visiting many tourist sites and experiences.

The Brooks High MDT department were overwhelmed by the generosity of our local Bunnings store who donated two tool chests to be used in the workshop. Students Shaun, Jay and Lachlan were using the battery charging station in metalwork on Friday. This has tidied up the workshop and made it a more efficient and safer workplace.
Thanks again Bunnings!!

Students in our school have been invited to take part in a wellbeing survey conducted in Term 3 2020. We are doing this as part of the Department of Education’s 2018 – 2021 Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy.
Young people’s sense of wellbeing is an important part of how they learn at school. The purpose of the survey is to seek students’ views about their wellbeing and their engagement with school. Students in Years 4 to 12 will be invited to participate in the Student Wellbeing Survey. The information collected will help our school, the Department of Education and our school community to support young people’s wellbeing.
The survey asks students about their social and emotional wellbeing; school relationships and engagement and learning in school; physical health and wellbeing; and after school activities. Students’ answers will be kept confidential – no one (including school staff) will use the results to identify individual students.
Teachers will arrange for students to undertake the survey during class time. Students will be asked if they would like to participate and are able to withdraw at any time. If you do not want your child to participate, please complete the form sent home with students.
An information letter has been sent home with all students on Tuesday 25 August with further information about the survey.
